Heping section of Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway

He-Ning Expressway (G40 Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway He-Ning Section), with a total length of about 133.43 kilometers, starts from Da-Shu Mountain in the western suburb of Hefei, Anhui Province, and ends in Zhouzhuang at the junction of Jiangsu and Anhui Province. It is an important part of G40 Shanghai-Shaanxi Expressway and G42 Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway. He-Ning Expressway was started in October 1986 and opened to traffic in 1991 (among which the section from Dasu Mountain to Longtang was opened to traffic in 1995). He-Ning Expressway is the first expressway in the history of traffic in Anhui Province. In 1991, during the worst flood in a century, the He-ning Expressway played a huge role. It became the only pass-way between Hefei, the provincial capital, and other places, and was called the "life-saving road" by the people. In 1993, it was awarded the title of "Top Ten National Highway Projects" by the Ministry of Communications. In 1996, it was awarded the title of "Top Ten Key Projects in Anhui Province" by the People's Government of Anhui Province.
